In short: Torchlite hosts free Minecraft Fabric servers in Bucharest, on the Lite plan (1.5 GB of RAM, 1.25 cores, 15 GB of disk) or the Turbo plan (3 GB, 1.5 cores, 20 GB), on Intel Xeon Gold 6134 CPUs behind zero.ms DDoS protection. The panel's Mod Manager installs Fabric mods from Modrinth, the Modpacks page installs whole Fabric packs, and you can upload any mod jar over SFTP. It is free: a short ad break in the panel pays for each start and renew, every 50 minutes on Lite and 40 on Turbo.
Why Fabric
Fabric is a light mod loader that updates quickly to new Minecraft versions. It is the home of the big performance mods, such as Lithium and FerriteCore, and of many quality-of-life and small content mods. Fabric mods do not run on Forge or NeoForge, and plugins for Paper do not run on Fabric, so pick Fabric when the mods you want are Fabric mods.
For Bukkit or Paper plugins, create a Paper server instead. For big Forge or NeoForge packs, see modded servers for modpacks.
Plans
| Plan | RAM | CPU | Disk | Renew every |
| Lite | 1.5 GB | 1.25 cores | 15 GB | 50 minutes |
| Turbo | 3 GB | 1.5 cores | 20 GB | 40 minutes |
A Fabric server with a handful of mods for a few friends runs on Lite. A few dozen mods, or a Fabric modpack, fit better on Turbo. Both come with the same panel, SFTP, a MySQL database and a backup slot.
Set it up
- On Create your server, pick Lite or Turbo, then Minecraft (Fabric).
- Confirm your email; the panel installs Fabric and the server.
- In the panel, open the Minecraft group and click Mod Manager. Set Mod Loader to Fabric and your Minecraft version.
- Install Fabric API first: nearly every Fabric mod needs it.
- Install your mods, then press Restart.
The mods guide explains how to pick the right file for your version and which mods players must install too. A Fabric server can also move to another Minecraft version from the Versions page; the version guide covers what to back up first.
What players need
Server-side mods, like most performance mods, work with a plain Minecraft client. Mods that add blocks, items or mobs must be installed by every player too, with Fabric Loader in their launcher and the same mod versions as the server. A modpack in the Modrinth App or Prism Launcher is the easiest way to give everyone the same set.
Frequently asked questions
Is Fabric server hosting on Torchlite free?
Yes. There is no paid plan; the short ad break in the panel at each start and renew pays for the server.
Can I run Fabric on the Max plan?
No. Max is for Forge, NeoForge and Hytale. Fabric runs on Lite or Turbo, and Turbo's 3 GB fits most Fabric setups.
Can I switch from Paper to Fabric?
Yes, from the Versions page. Plugins stop working on Fabric, and the Nether and End folders move; the version guide explains how to keep them.
Do my players need Fabric installed?
Only for mods that change content. Server-only mods, like most performance mods, need nothing on the player's side.
