A TeamSpeak server gives your group its own voice chat, with channels, permissions and no one else's rules. Torchlite installs the official TeamSpeak 6 server for Linux. The TS6 server is still in beta, and TeamSpeak ships it with a 32-slot beta license that it renews during the beta.
Plans
| Plan | RAM | CPU | Disk | Renew every |
| Lite | 1.5 GB | 1.25 cores | 15 GB | 50 minutes |
| Turbo | 3 GB | 1.5 cores | 20 GB | 40 minutes |
Both are free. Starting or renewing the server shows a short ad break in the panel, 2 ads on Lite and 3 on Turbo. A voice server needs very little, so Lite is plenty. Remember that a free server only runs while you renew it, so this is a voice server for when you play together, not one that stays up for days on its own. The renewal guide explains the Renew timer.
Before you start
- The TeamSpeak 6 client for everyone who joins, from TeamSpeak's website.
No key or extra account is needed. The TeamSpeak license is already accepted when the server is created.
How to start
- On Create your server, choose a plan, then TeamSpeak 6.
- Confirm your email with the code we send. The server is built and starts by itself.
- Log in at game.torchlite.host with the same email and password, and open the Console straight away.
- On its very first start, the server prints a ServerAdmin privilege key. Copy it now: it is printed only once.
- In the TeamSpeak 6 client, connect to the IP and the Primary port from the Network page, written as
IP:port. - Right-click the server's name, choose Use Privilege Key and paste the key. You are now Server Admin.
The TeamSpeak 6 guide covers each step in detail, and what still works if the key is lost.
Ports
Every TeamSpeak server gets three ports, shown on the Network page:
- The Primary port is the voice port, the one people type.
- File transfer carries avatars, icons and uploads. The client finds it by itself.
- Web query is reserved for ServerQuery over HTTP, which TS6 keeps off by default.
Set it up
With Server Admin you shape the server from the client: a lobby as the default channel, a few channels per game or squad, a password on any you want private, and an AFK channel. A new server has no server password, so set one if you want to keep it to your friends. Keep Server Admin to one or two people, and give friends a separate group with only the rights they need.
Common problems
The server stops right away and mentions the license. License Accepted on Startup is not accept. Change it back and press Start.
There is no privilege key in the console. It only appears on the first start. Look in the logs folder in Files.
It stopped on its own. The renewal timer ran out. Press Start and reconnect.
