SA-MP, San Andreas Multiplayer, is the original multiplayer mod for GTA: San Andreas. Its servers run gamemodes written in Pawn and compiled to .amx files, and thousands of them still exist, from roleplay to stunt and deathmatch servers. Torchlite installs the official SA-MP server for Linux, version 0.3.7 by default.

Plans

Lite1.5 GB1.25 cores15 GB50 minutes
Turbo3 GB1.5 cores20 GB40 minutes

Both are free. Starting or renewing the server shows a short ad break in the panel, 2 ads on Lite and 3 on Turbo. SA-MP itself needs very little memory, so Lite is enough for most servers. Pick Turbo for a big roleplay gamemode with many plugins. The renewal guide explains the Renew timer.

Before you start

  • GTA: San Andreas on PC for every player, with the SA-MP 0.3.7 client.
  • Optional, your own gamemode, compiled to .amx, with its filterscripts and plugins.

No key or extra account is needed.

How to start

  1. On Create your server, choose a plan, then SA-MP.
  2. Confirm your email with the code we send. The server is built and starts by itself with the default gamemode.
  3. Log in at game.torchlite.host with the same email and password. The Network page shows the IP and the port.
  4. In the SA-MP client, add the server to your favourites as IP:port and connect.

Files and settings

Open Files, or connect over SFTP:

  • server.cfg holds the hostname, maxplayers, the gamemode to load (gamemode0), the filterscripts and the plugins lines. The port line is written by the panel on every start, so leave it as it is.
  • gamemodes holds the .amx gamemodes and filterscripts the filterscripts.
  • plugins holds the plugins. The server runs on Linux, so it needs the .so build of each plugin, not the .dll, and the plugins line in server.cfg names them with .so.
  • scriptfiles holds the files your scripts read and write.

The installer writes a random rcon_password into server.cfg, or the one you set in RCON password on the Startup page. Keep it secret: anyone who has it controls the server.

Common problems

The server stops right after starting. Read the last lines of the console or server_log.txt. A missing gamemode file or a plugin that failed to load are the usual causes.

A plugin does not load. It is the Windows .dll version, or it needs a library the server does not have. Look for a Linux .so release of the plugin.

Players cannot see the server in the list. Use the IP and port from the Network page and add it to favourites; the public list can take a while to show a new server.

It stopped on its own. The renewal timer ran out. Press Start and the server loads the same gamemode again.
