open.mp, Open Multiplayer, is a newer server for GTA: San Andreas multiplayer that stays compatible with SA-MP. Players join with the SA-MP 0.3.7 client they already have, or with the open.mp launcher, and most Pawn gamemodes and filterscripts written for SA-MP keep working, often after a recompile with the open.mp includes. Torchlite installs the latest open.mp server for Linux by default.

Lite1.5 GB1.25 cores15 GB50 minutes
Turbo3 GB1.5 cores20 GB40 minutes

Both are free. Starting or renewing the server shows a short ad break in the panel, 2 ads on Lite and 3 on Turbo. Lite is enough for most servers. Pick Turbo for a large gamemode with many components and plugins. The renewal guide explains the Renew timer.

Before you start

  • GTA: San Andreas on PC for every player, with the SA-MP 0.3.7 client or the open.mp launcher.
  • Optional, your own gamemode, compiled to .amx.

No key or extra account is needed.

How to start

  1. On Create your server, choose a plan, then open.mp.
  2. Confirm your email with the code we send. The server is built and starts by itself.
  3. Log in at game.torchlite.host with the same email and password. The Network page shows the IP and the port.
  4. In the SA-MP client or the open.mp launcher, add the server as IP:port and connect.

Files and settings

Open Files, or connect over SFTP:

  • config.json holds the server settings: the name, the player limit, the gamemodes to load, the side scripts and the legacy plugins. The panel writes the port and the RCON password into it on every start, so change those on the Startup page, not in the file.
  • gamemodes holds the .amx gamemodes and filterscripts the filterscripts.
  • components holds open.mp components, and plugins holds SA-MP plugins. The server runs on Linux, so plugins need their .so build.

Set RCON Password on the Startup page before you share the server, and keep it secret.

Moving from SA-MP

Copy your gamemodes, filterscripts, scriptfiles and the Linux plugins across, then list the gamemode and scripts in config.json. Many servers start as they are. If a script fails to compile or load, rebuild it with the open.mp includes, which add warnings for code that behaves differently.

Common problems

The server stops right after starting. Read the last lines of the console. A gamemode named in config.json that is not in gamemodes is the most common cause.

A plugin does not load. It is the Windows .dll version. Look for a Linux .so release, or an open.mp component that replaces it.

It stopped on its own. The renewal timer ran out. Press Start and players reconnect to the same IP and port.
