Both ask you to renew. FreeMcServer renews every 4-6 hours and gives up to 1.7 GB with 10 GB of NVMe; Torchlite renews every 30-50 minutes and gives up to 4.2 GB, SFTP and a published Xeon CPU.

In short: FreeMcServer.net gives up to 1.7 GB of RAM (more only by watching ads), 10 GB of NVMe storage, FTP access, a free MySQL database and a free custom subdomain, and asks you to renew every 4 to 6 hours under load. Servers without renewal are deleted after 30 days, and VPNs and some browsers are blocked. Torchlite, hosted in Bucharest, gives 1.5, 3 or 4.2 GB of RAM on Intel Xeon Gold 6134 CPUs, 15 to 35 GB of disk, SFTP and a MySQL database, and asks you to renew every 30 to 50 minutes while the server runs. FreeMcServer renews far less often; Torchlite gives more RAM and storage.

FreeMcServer's figures come from its own website and help pages, checked in October 2026. Check them there before you decide.

Where FreeMcServer is better

  • Far fewer renewals. Every 4 to 6 hours under load is much less clicking than Torchlite's 30 to 50 minutes.
  • NVMe storage. Its 10 GB are on NVMe, which loads chunks faster than Torchlite's enterprise HDDs.
  • Longer grace. An unused server lasts 30 days, against Torchlite's 5 days with nothing done on it.
  • Subdomain included. A custom subdomain comes free; on Torchlite a .torchlite.host subdomain is on request.

Where Torchlite is better

  • More RAM without extra ads. Turbo gives 3 GB and Max 4.2 GB as part of the plan. Max is meant for Forge and NeoForge modpacks and Hytale.
  • More storage. 15 GB on Lite, 20 GB on Turbo and 35 GB on Max.
  • SFTP, not only FTP. SFTP encrypts your password and files on the way.
  • Published hardware and network. Two Xeon Gold 6134 CPUs, ECC memory, 1-10 Gbps and zero.ms DDoS protection.
  • Other games. Terraria, Hytale, Factorio, Unturned, MTA, SA-MP, Counter-Strike 1.6, TeamSpeak 6 and Discord bots on the same account.

How each stays free

Both hosts are paid for by ads and both ask you to renew, so a server nobody uses stops on its own. On Torchlite each start and renew shows a short ad break in the panel, 2 ads on Lite and 3 on Turbo and Max. The renewal guide explains the timer, the start queue and the inactivity rule.

Frequently asked questions

Is Torchlite a good FreeMcServer alternative?

Yes, if you want more RAM, more storage or SFTP and will keep the panel open while you play. If renewing every few hours instead of every 30 to 50 minutes matters most, FreeMcServer suits you better.

Why does Torchlite renew more often?

Each renew shows the ads that pay for the server, and a short timer hands slots back quickly when nobody is around, so more people can play on the same hardware.

Does Torchlite give a free subdomain?

A .torchlite.host subdomain is available on request. Every server also has an IP and port that work straight away.
